"Shares in AMR and UAL dropped 40 percent or more after financial markets reopened on Sept. 17, 2001. And the commission's investigators found that short selling -- a means of betting against the companies -- substantially increased for UAL on Sept. 6 and for AMR on Sept. 10 of that year.

Yet interviews with the financial advisers and traders who initiated those transactions found they based their decisions on several bearish factors already affecting the airline industry, including widely distributed recommendations for short selling from a California newsletter called Options Hotline."

Catch-22s everywhere you look

If we want to help the economy we automatically screw the environment. If we want to help the environment we automatically screw the economy.

Everything we do as individuals to get ahead/make a living/survive is exactly what hurts us as a species (e.g. working, consuming,etc.). Everything that would ease the problems of the human species would hurt the human as an individual (e.g. disease, sterilization, war etc.).

I'm not suggesting any of those things. I'm simply stating (what appears to me as) facts.

We really screwed ourselves. Why are humans so allergic to reality?

Love you all

Russia should be thankful if it gets another Stalin - especially given the times to come. Stalin, (and indeed communism), was "meant" providentially to transform Russia overnight from a rural feudal state - and then face off and defeat the much more developed and fanatical Nazi hordes - and then take a dominant global position in the new world shaped by WW2. The second part of the WW2 Order was when the "West" defeated the ossified Soviet regime - but not the soul of Russia. Now yet another World Order is emerging, with the coming fall of the West, in which all economic and military power will pass to the genuine Eurasian nation, a future world bloc centered on Russia - but much better than any so far seen.

It's been said we were unsatisfied with the earth as it was in the beginning. I tend to agree.

This is just idle speculation on my part, but I'm worried that we may soon be saying goodbye to that tasty glass of orange juice in the morning...

Most of Florida's oranges are grown in South-Central Florida, and yields have been decreasing as of late due to various other factors.

But, as of right now, Florida's in a State of Emergency, and the oil slick is projected to hit their beaches eventually (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/05/02/93279/gulf-coast-states-brace-for-nightmare.html).

Consider summer wind patterns, where the winds blow from the Gulf across the peninsula (http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/eh105 and also seen at http://www.ghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goeseasthurrwv.html). That will inevitably carry rainfall from the Gulf into Florida - rainfall that could potentially be poisonous.

And heaven Forbid that a hurricane happens before this is somehow cleaned up. I can't see anything else happening but poison and oil and gunk literally being thrown miles inland.

Good times, eh?

Re The oil spill: Before contemplating conspiracy la la land it would be well worth reviewing the technology involved, listening to an Interview with a Survivor from the Oil Rig Explosion which should put any such notions to bed.

What is apparent, is that "technology" is not going to save us from the oil crisis when it involves working at the limits we are currently pushing.

Re Times square: It struck me there are remarkable similarities between the devices used in the 2007 Glasgow International Airport attack, and the two car bombs in London on Friday, 29 June. (both involved propane & petrol)

Reportedly those involved (in the UK attacks) were radicalised by teachings of Jihadist groups operating in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Egypt.

If the similarities continue, these failed attacks may be a prelude. Those involved were more desperate and determined on the subsequent attempt, which were suicide attacks.

Here is a take by Michael Putman, a Facebook friend of mine:

"Now the oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico at 10:pm CST on 20th April 2010, was 'Deepwater Horizon' owned by Transocean Limited, based in Zug, Switzerland, with its principal office located in HOUSTON, Texas, and other offices in Zug and Vernier, Switzerland, and in George Town, Cayman Islands. Zug is ... See Morewhere Marc Rich, real name HANS BRAND... See More, the long-range Deutsche Verteidigungs Dienst (DVD) operative and East-West intermediary, is based.

The explosion occurred on the very same day that Transocean shares started trading in Europe, as is confirmed by the following Press Release dated 20th April 2010:

http://www.deepwater.com/fw/main/News-748.html?c=113031&;p=irol-news&nyo=0

'ZUG, SWITZERLAND, Apr 20, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) (SIX:RIGN), the world's largest offshore drilling contractor, announced that its shares will begin trading on SIX Swiss Exchange ("SIX") today under the symbol (RIGN). Transocean's shares also trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol (RIG)'.

Following this sabotage, Barack Obama reversed course on offshore drilling, BARELY THREE WEEKS after he had publicly announced a revised domestic energy policy lifting the longstanding moratorium on certain offshore drilling. Specifically, on 30th April 2010, the controlled US 'State News Agency' Associated Press reported:

'A top adviser to President Barack Obama said Friday that no new oil drilling would be authorized until authorities learn what caused the explosion of the rig Deepwater Horizon. David Axelrod told ABC's 'Good Morning America' that 'no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what has happened here'. Obama recently lifted a drilling moratorium for many offshore areas, including the Atlantic and Gulf areas'.

***************

Interesting, yes? Also interesting that the "explosion" should happen on 20, the day of the listing, but that date happens to carry other nuances as well.

BTW, on the political front, Facebook deleted my account last week with 1,100 friends. Needless to say, the RPN Group got taken down also. Both are back up. For anyone who might be interested, I have cloaked myself as "Arrow Cloud." One thing about a FB deletion: it means some nerves are getting poked.

Yes, Russia should be thankful for the communist dictatorship which 'saved' it. What about the tens of millions of Soviet citizens that died because of the brutal regime - and not even in war times, mind you; should they be thankful too?
You should have kept silent instead of spouting such drivel. But then again, where ignorance is bliss 'tis folly to be wise. So why should you?

Another subtle form of media manipulation...

CBS News conducted a survey on what Americans think is their most trusted source of news. They included individual TV networks and newspapers in the choices within the survey, but they didn't include the Internet. It would have been interesting to see how many people would have chosen the Internet if given the choice, but I don't think they really wanted to go there.

@ Elmo:
I think most people stay in their illusion-bubble and dismiss reality because accepting reality would mean taking responsibility for their part.
People have been more or less aware of the fact that the media lies all the time.
Most people know exactly that our way of living is suicidal from a species point of view.
It's just easier for Germans to blame America, for Americans to blame terrorists, for consumers to blame the evil corporations (whose products they keep buying) etc. etc.
I'm not a fan of blaming the corporations while at the same time omitting the fact that it's us who gave/give them a lot of power. I'm not saying they're not bad or that there's not a lot of corruption going on but I just don't see how blaming others helps anything. We all love/want freedom but don't want the responsibility that comes with freedom.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for their actions, which is the main reason why I don't think religion is a solution in these times. It seems to me that a lot (not all) of religious people use religion/god to rid themselves of responsibility and instead pass it on to some higher power which forgives them for their sins if they submit to a certain set of beliefs. Very convenient in my opinion.
I'm really sorry if this offends anybody, I really am.

about the Nazi demos:
They happen every year on Mayday. Same thing every year: There's around 500 Neonazis and 10.000 counterprotesters and if it wasn't for the police the Neonazis would probably be dead after the demonstration. It's a difficult topic considering Germany's history. The underlying question is: Is racism an opinion or a crime? If it's an opinion the police should protect the Neonazis, if it's not they should arrest them.

about Stalin:
Stalin was as bad as they come but at the same time he/stalinist Russia is the real reason why the Nazis lost the war. For every German soldier who died on that front 12 Russian soldiers died. That sacrifice (if you wanna call it that) is the white dot in the black part of the ying-yan. Stalin himself being the big black part. America could be seen as the white part while the American industrialists who financed Hitler are the black dot.
There are no absolutes in this world, no black and white, most of it is somewhere in the grey area.

Elmo, RanD spins EVERYTHING to fit to RanD's cosmic consciousness doctrine; no differently than you spin everything you can to fit to your doomer doctrine, just like MCR spins everything that fits to his Peak Oil / Collapse doctrine, just like everybody is free to similarly do with whatever subject interests them.

I wouldn't be so sure, "Inexistent". The big picture always differs from the small. Even Stalin said "A single death is a sorrow, a million is a statistic". More millions died in the 20th Century due to your "free"causes than at Stalin's hand. Stalin had to shape up ruthlessly a new state to with stand a whole encirclement of potent enemies; he couldn't cater to the grief of a single family. If he had, he would have been blamed for that - dereliction of duty. Its a sad thing, but these are the hard dilemmas all people in positions of high authority are faced with. And Stalin is still popular with the majority of Russians for those reasons even today. I a not talking about the fancy-pants oligarchs who robbed the state coffers with American help, and who now send their daughters to Wellesley College to "become proper".
And by the way, given your assessment, you had better remain "inexistent".

Elmo said...

"More millions died in the 20th Century due to your "free"causes than at Stalin's hand."

And they'll keep on dying as long as [we] keep paying for the war machine!

By [we], I mean every complacent individual in the "developed" world who calls him/herself a "taxpayer".

I decided to try and do something useful. If anyone's interested I'm documenting the process of becoming self sufficient in as much detail as possible at my blog http://brickhurstblog.blogspot.com/ Keep up the good work. I was a subscriber to From The Wilderness for a while it helped kick me into seeking solutions. I think everybody needs to try and make themselves as independant as possible of existing systems fast.

I think we're reaching a tipping point and I suspect things will move really quickly now. How it will turn out is anyone's guess but whoever doesn't have access to food outside of industrial agriculture will be in really bad shape.

@ Guy, search "Renaissance" on Facebook. The "Renaissance Party of North America" will pop up. I invite you to read the Mission Statement. You can determine for yourself why my accounts got deleted.

A am firm on the political triad. Peak Oilers, NAmerican Secessionists, Occidental Nationalists. This is the political triad that needs to converge. Each leg requires the vision, talent, determination...and political support, of the other. If any one of the three chooses to drift on its own it will only be met with futility and defeat. The Occident can only be saved via the trial-by-fire of the Post-Peak Oil Götterdämmerung. Welcome to The Gathering.

"Silence of the Bees"

I love the interaction on this thread; up to F.Kamilov at 5:58am.
Top notch post, I won't pick favorites, just work backwards.
RanD defines selfishness, & meaning; we each value things differently, express ourselves according to our own priorities, where WE, each of us is in our life! Therefore don't get overwrought if there seems to
be a disconnect/twist/spin here & there, that is life, we can't be everywhere, do/know everything.
I never lived in Asia in the 30's or 1940's, but I did live through america's (lower case), "Great Depression"! Most American Sheeple admire our rulers, regardless of how many "sub humans" worldwide we exterminated
to get to the Collapse we are in. Russian, & American history leaves a foul taste in my mouth. How many died around the World since 1905 because of T. Roosevelt's Illegal, unconstitutional, under the table treaties!

Robs seems to be a clear headed thinker, glad to have your input.

"There are no absolutes in this world, no black and white, most of it is
somewhere in the grey area."
Actually there is no gray- it's BLACK or white, mix them up with a lot of
history/time/smoke/spin, and they come up as Gray, or at least a shade of Dead!

Elmo, with his hot poker.

Inexistant, good observation.

Guy, forget it. As of this morning, my Facebook account "Arrow Cloud" has been disabled again. As Administrator, with it went the Renaissance Party of North America Group. This is now twice in two weeks. The attack could be coming from anywhere, from in here inclusive.

The RPN is launching a web site, hopefully by week's end. Please stay tuned. One of the RPN Officers will likely re-launch the RPN Facebook Group under his/her administration.
