It must be time to let the cat out of the bag on the MSM. ABC's program Earth 2100 looks at worst case and best case scenarios. Check out their website as well, Google Earth 2100. What was missing was MCR's book!

Wonder what the EROEI is on this: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=7311360

The Daily Telegraph here in the UK try to talk about falling demand and supplies without mentioning Peak Oil:

Is the West's love for oil receding for good

Mike's map is correct again with these two snippets:

"So if the recession is to blame, surely economic recovery will return the oil demand in the US, UK and the rest of Europe to normal?

Not according to Christof Ruhl, chief economist at BP. He believes that the high oil price was an exacerbating force behind the recession."

and...

"Lack of investment in new oil exploration will also push up prices by causing a shortfall in future supply. The problem is not, as many fear, that there is not enough oil in the ground to meet demand, but that many currently identified reserves are too expensive to extract or in politically difficult areas like the Middle East and Russia."

Jeff, re the Gorby article, there is nothing really earth-shattering here. The “vision” is quite pedestrian and, relative to the challenges and players involved in global geopolitics, carries the equivalent of a high school valedictory address. I just don’t think that a kinder and gentler Empire is going to cut it. However, the notion of “global perestroika” is a deft PR touch. It is much more palatable than Hank Kissinger or Gordon Brown constantly mouthing off about their New World Order.
