The end of food as we know it?
In 2008, American pundit Paul Roberts published The End of Food. Roberts argued that the "bullet" attacking the world's food system could come from any number of sources: avian flu, "a sharp spike in the price of oil, a series of extreme weather conditions, an outbreak of some new plant disease"

The Shadow War Making Sense of the New CIA Battlefield in Afghanistan (from Tomdispatch)
ReplyDeletequote
Add this all together and you have the grim face of “intelligence” at war in 2010 -- a new micro-brew when it comes to Washington’s conflicts. Today, in Afghanistan, a militarized mix of CIA operatives and ex-military mercenaries as well as native recruits and robot aircraft is fighting a war “in the shadows” (as they used to say in the Cold War era). This is no longer “intelligence” as anyone imagines it, nor is it “military” as military was once defined, not when U.S. operations have gone mercenary and native in such a big way. This is pure “lord of the flies” stuff -- beyond oversight, beyond any law, including the laws of war. And worse yet, from all available evidence, despite claims that the drone war is knocking off mid-level enemies, it seems remarkably ineffective. All it may be doing is spreading the war farther and digging it in deeper.

Petraeus: U.S. has plan to deal with Iran's nuclear program
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/01/09/petraeus.iran/
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has highlighted the deterrence capability of Iran's ballistic missiles and warned enemies against taking any military action against the Islamic Republic.
...Iran successfully tested the second generation of the Sejjil missile and brought it into mass production in December. The solid-fuel, two-stage Sejjil-2 missile has a longer range than the Shahab-3 missile, which can reach targets 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) away.

I finally got around to seeing CoLLapse at Austin last night. The theater sold out, but the movie will be shown one more night at the Alamo Draft House Ritz.
ReplyDeleteLeah says we'll take in you and your dog when LA crumbles, Mike.
Hi, I've been listening to Mike since the DVD Truth and Lies of 9/11. I've read all his books, the websites, etc.
ReplyDeleteAnd I understand why Mike doesn't really want to be associated with anything that has to do with "9/11 truth".
So I was wondering why Mike decided to join the group "Firefighters for 9/11 Truth" on his facebook account?
Seems like mixed signals.
There's no mixed signals man ...
ReplyDeleteMy cousin Greg Stajk was a firefighter who died when the buildings fell.
Those men gave their lives; they sacrificed.
They carry the fire, in their hearts.

ReplyDeletePuddingknife -- Nothing tough at all to figure out. I'm an ex-cop who will always have a bond with firefighters. And they aren't alleging that no plane hit the Pentagon. NYFD, NYPD and NYPA got royally hosed by 9/11 -- especially by the poison that has killed so many of them. -- Nice try but none of you guys are going to suck me back anywhere near 9/11 Truth.
ReplyDeleteUnrepentant Cowboy -- Only if I can sing. You might check out the New White Trash site again Specifically, "Avalanche and Earthquake". -- Love ya man.
Thanks for the GREAT work.
ReplyDeleteSaw COLLAPSE last night and it was really good.
Just wanted you to know there are others out here "building life boats".
Am building a Permaculture Center in Sweden and using YouTube for getting a message out.
THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK!!!

Mike, the BBC showed "farms for a future" in the UK around a year ago, I also took some heart from it, especially seeing the reaction of the farmers at that conference! I later learned that was a conference on Organic farming, which made me think it was preaching to the converted somewhat.
ReplyDeleteI have just completed the layout plans for my "Food Forest" to be planted soon. Anyone planning to grow their own food long-term should become familiar with the basic concepts before deciding on a "growing system". Try to think 20 years ahead, when I did I realised I would be 65yo and unlikely be able to dig over beds, or import sufficient compost/organic matter to run the multi bed organic no dig system I had been building up to now.
Forest gardens are planned as an edible woodland, stories, or layers of different size food plants, from standard trees, dwarf trees, bushes, perennials, climbers and roots.
Think when you next walk through a woodland, why no-one has to cultivate or dig it, no-one has to fertilise it, no-one has to plant hundreds of plants every year, the (mostly perennial) plants grow all on their own without input. A food forest tries to replicate natural systems using edible plants, with less work the more it is established.

Seems like the world is starting to wake up about the flu shot scare. theflucase.com is listing many countries launching investigations and refusing any more shipments. Amy Goodman finally mentioned something about this in her broadcast yesterday, with an investigation here in the States into the hyped need for mass vaccinations. With a new billion dollar vaccination production center in the works here, I guess we won't be hearing too much about big pharma's plans to keep finding more and more illnesses to vaccinate us against.

The Self & the Other - #26
ReplyDeleteThat 'the self ' is only possible of existing through recognition of 'the other' reflects the principle of dualism, with dualism being the device whereby the eternal SELF diversifies it-SELF as an otherwise pure & perfect singularity (i.e., as an effectively meaningless 'void') -- into absolutely everything that exists, which is the infinite 'other' produced of the void of the 'self's' alternative state of being as an otherwise true singularity.
This dualistic/relativistic actualizing of otherwise unself-manifested existence into two from out of one, becomes the self-generating creative mechanism/methodology/means/device by which existence & nonexistence, yin & yang, tall & short, right & wrong, good & evil, far & near, us & them, fast & slow, life & death, black & white, sweet & sour, female & male, soft & hard, cold & hot, mass & energy, motion, form, time, physical matter, geometry, mathematics and everything else, is made capable of existing as we daily see, feel, use, come to understand and experience it.
This informs us that absolutely everything throughout the entire field of existence is, in fact, interrelated & interdependent, born of an eternal & infinitely self-diversifying, intrinsically alive, singularity.
*******
As for human kinds' roles as integral component-extensions of this grand simultaneous source & means of being -- with our self-evinced capacity to fully consciously know of, understand, and express the nature of it -- we are hereby this very source & means, itself, being literarily shown by said source & means to begin functioning as a harmoniously self-unified species, living in accord with our interdependent human kind selves' raison d'etre as fully self-conscious exponent-practitioners of that which we are, with all due love & respect given to that of which we are begotten.
Amen.
