Americas
Five more years of those 10% of GDP deficits will quickly raise America's debt to GDP level to 100%, a level that the rating services - and more importantly, the markets - recognize as a point of no return.

"Oil Stored On Tankers Is Up 71% Since April"
ReplyDeleteSetting aside the desire to make a substantial profit, we need to put this in quantitative perspective. Although this is refined products and not crude, it still gives us a rough idea of how long 41 million barrels will last. It sounds like a lot, but it wouldn't even last the world a whole day.
Similarly, people are ga-ga over Brazil's Tupi field. "It has a billion barrels!" Which would last the world... two weeks.
I give peak oil talks to citizen groups occasionally, and listeners are invariably floored when they hear how much oil the world consumes in a single day.

I beg your pardon, I was born in 1935; if you have been reading here long you know some of my history, I just had to remind you of what you wrote, it must have struck a nerve with me because I wrote a long rant, which i (small) will not share!
There are two things which "set me off"; one is the arrogance of youth, possibly because I had so much;
The second is our propensity to put everything/one in boxes! Boxes, or labels of any kind are dangerous. TPTB use Boxes to divide us, to separate us from our commonality; no one generation, group, "Sect", Church, or race can be set aside, blamed, or needs to "Step aside", "as a Group". I know many of "Your generation" (WHO/which?), that don't want to work, move away from their game, or even think about what the future holds, much less become active.
I AM NOT putting you in that box. I did notice the game "Battle Tank Desert Mission" on your Blog, how do you intend to "game" a tank,B 1 bomber, or a soundless Drone? Find a Resistance Fighter from WWII, Korea, or Vietnam-they
did, hand to hand against great odds. Who do you think is teaching the youth fighting today against greater odds - TODAY--
in the world you will create, OR destroy.

Actually, a lot of us born before 1985, especially those of us who came of age in the sixties and seventies didn't have any children. And we have lived our lives conserving as we learned to do during post peak oil of the US. Altho we may have lowered our pants, we used birth control!!
Oil demand from emerging nations makes up larger share for first time, according to new research by energy giant BP.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/oilprices/5488610/Oil-demand-from-emerging-nations-makes-up-larger-share-for-first-time.html
According to BP's annual Statistical Review, energy consumption last year by countries from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was 5.508bn tonnes of oil equivalent, down 1.3pc from 2007. In the non-OECD countries, it was 5.787bn tonnes, up 4.2pc on 2007.
"It is a trend which will continue to affect prices and raise questions about the sustainability of economic growth, energy security and climate change," Mr Hayward said.
Why report in "bn tonnes" how many million bpd is that?
wxdude714 - Um, so?
ReplyDeleteTake a look at Mike's new book, "A Presidential Energy Policy", pages 112-115, or just re-read the article you linked to: "With 2 million to 4 million gallons of water, sand and chemicals used per well to fracture the shale and extract the gas, there are concerns water sources will be strained and contaminated"
Shall we give up drinking water and irrigating crops so that we can continue driving cars?
