ARGUING MANKIND'S CASE BEFORE GOD

Michael C. Ruppert

I don't know about anybody else on this election eve, but I am on pins and needles. So much will be revealed by tomorrow; and the hopes and dreams of most of the planet are wagered in one way or another. All eyes will watch. I don't need to explain why the likelihood of Bush/Cheney leaving office means so much to me. In a ham and eggs breakfast, the chicken is involved but the pig is committed... Oink. Oink.

So... I'm bouncing around today -- doing a little research -- and not in a good place. The energy, economic and politcal "dots" that come in are not good. There's no need to post it. I start a dialogue in my head becasue that's how I think, feel, and untuit my way through things. I finally distill it down to this: The worst case happens and we stumblefuck our way into oblivion. It's just about time to go extinct for any of a half dozen reasons, and we have one last chance to argue before God -- for the one miracle that will save us. We must convince God that we deserve it. What are the best things about homo sapiens? I don't want to lead here. I want to follow. I want to listen to you.Any takers?

WHY MANKIND SHOULD BE PULLED BACK FROM THE BRINK: LET US COUNT THE REASONS

Jenna Orkin

Not an argument to present to God, who is quite capable of making up His own mind, but a distraction to while away the hours on the eve of Change of one sort or another.

Somewhere there's a law of human behavior, corresponding to Newtonian physics, which says that for every selfish, destructive action there's an altruistic, creative one. Well, maybe the proportions aren't exactly equal, and certainly the first kind dominates in the world but we're definitely not all bad. Think Anne Frank. Even cooped up in that attic for two years she saw redeeming features in her enemies. Of course we never learned what she thought once she got to Bergen-Belsen. But that's beside the point. She herself was the argument for salvation.

For every m-f- there's a victim, likely more than one, bearing the unbearable and managing to dig themselves towards the light, however clumsily. Even the m-f- is not all bad, or else there would be no possibility of redemption and no argument against the death penalty.

I have a friend who was raised by schizophrenics; another, by a sadist; others who were raped. All have managed to carve out decent, even wonderful lives for themselves. You will never read of them, (apart from the previous two sentences) and their stories, while unique, are also far more common than one can imagine.

What else? Beethoven, Obidos (a town in Portugal,) Cirque du Soleil, Dog Show (a Christopher Guest movie) cappuccino...

And then there are the simple things. F- ups that we are, what do most of us really want? To be loved by a few, appreciated by a few more and left alone by everyone else.

This gets back to the argument of whom to blame for the current mess.

When Eve listens to the snake, whom should we blame - the woman or the snake? Isn't knowledge useful? Isn't challenging authority sometimes honorable? Isn't blind obedience sometimes dangerous?

When Pinocchio follows the fox who offers him candy and Disneyland and the other good things in life, whom should we blame - the fox or the wooden boy?

When ads, carefully crafted from millions of dollarsworth of market research, beckon with promises of wealth, fun and beautiful women, whom should we blame? Advertiser or buyer?

You of all people know that the question to ask is, "Who benefits?"

Both, but to vastly different degrees.

Morals are mores; ethics, in the ether. The resonance of the words is no accident; the former in each pair derives from the latter. Few have a moral or intellectual compass that is independent of their surroundings, the equivalent of perfect pitch. But it can be learned. And that is the evolution that will be necessary to keep us from perishing.

The Creator -- the Big Banger,if you will -- gave us a planet with everything we need to create a paradise. You can look at history as a chronicle of dead ends and false turns. How many more have we got?

Philosophy says our worth is relative, limited as it were by the very mush that evaluates such questions.

Science says something similar: that our brains move to certain advanced rhythms. Add thumbs.

Religion leaches philosophy, twines it with guilt and says: our compassion, our morality.

Common sense at this point says: Boy are we f**ked.

I'm going to go with art. Art says, This is the truth. Humans make art. This is our greatest aspect. I'm not talking about Brittany Spears and 24. I'm talking about Chuck Berry. I'm talking about Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Cormac McCarthy, DaVinci.

I'm not so Disneyland as to say art is going to save us. I think unfortunately the only thing that is going to save is the second coming of Christ. And I just don't think that guy's gonna be hitting the stage any time soon. Ever.

That we seek truth; this is the greatest thing about human beings.

Mike, my buddy's got this tattooed on his forearm: Trust God, but keep your powder dry.

I'm sure you've heard it before. I think those old phrase-coiners were referring to times like these, quite specifically.

Stay cool.

I can only offer these three writings for whatever they may be worth; they have been of great value to me in unsettled times, though I admit, I’d be hard pressed to explain what they mean:

If the ‘no thing’ created ‘some things’, as extensions of itself, in order to experience itself more fully, it is interesting it has spent countless lifetimes, attempting in form to find itself in non form again. How can one side of any form know its other side through any sensory perception? If you perceive yourself as one side of the moon rather than a whole moon, dark or otherwise, of course there is confusion and disparity. If you perceive your self as whole, and the rest for your pleasure, then great peace and happiness is yours. Fragmentation is the greatest source of learned knowledge and the greatest cause of grief sickness in the soul.

The relationship of one thing to another is a point of reference. The dynamic tension between any two forms of energy varies moment to moment. Within a certain range, the point of reference remains ‘true’ with slight variation. Outside that given range it does not. The ‘sensed rhythm’ in that relationship, regardless of ‘range’ gives a settled peace, where the ‘all’ is not understood. Allowing the rhythm to ‘play in you’ means a flow of information beyond the ‘known’. There is growth in listening and living in the rhythm. Health and peace are the natural outflow from this source of beingness.

When humanity fails and love is betrayed, look up to find ideals. The spaciousness of clouds and the crystal blue air above refresh the spirit. Water the soul frequently but never lose sight of the atrocities of man. Remember to protect your humanity as you feed your soul from starlight and love.

Hey, you asked !  the pins and needles are here; the pin cushion is missing……..I guess I’m getting used to the ‘pricks’ !

Life is horror.
Existance is horror.
Even before we roll the dice and play our meager hand.
It is horror.

But grace is our glory. When we fight for grace, share our grace, give thanks for our grace, we live in glorious times.

Be still and know.
Our kingdom is here.

...and don't forget to vote.

Peace.

If I think about the question "Will God create a miracle to save us from the direction we're headed" then I have to think what does it mean for God to choose. I think that ultimately God gives humans choice in all human actions, implying that it's us who will choose to save ourselves or not. If we choose to save ourselves then we can be happy that we did and try not to get into other similarly bad situations. If we don't choose to save ourselves, then those who are suffering the most will have to ask questions like: How did I contribute to this? What could I have done to prevent this? How best can I behave even if I'm headed towards an increasingly bad or even fatal circumstance? Hopefully those who aren't suffering so much would have some humility.

I think the majority of human beings are basically good people. I think if people knew the truth about what's really going on, then we would be much better at finding solutions together. But the people who really run things keep the masses in fear of enemies that are created for their own purposes. And the people who really run things keep the masses in a state of being that is both delusional and far from reality. But that state of being serves the need for greed and power that the people in control truly seek for themselves.

Despite its shortcomings, the world has become more enlightened in recent times, and growth is occurring within the human race. At this moment we are on the verge of electing a man of color as President of the United States, something that most people even just four years ago would have thought to have been impossible.

There is no racial or species-derived guilt. Therefore, no moral judge would judge mankind as a whole. Our capacity for self-awareness and for individuality in both thought and action, are what earn us each a separate hearing for our deeds and misdeeds - and only our own.

I will go to my grave, far future or around the corner, content in the knowledge that I have done (for the most part) well enough.

And if I am wrong, if there is a god who is a harsh judge - he's just another bully like all the rest down here, isnt he. And he will no sooner earn my respect and my submission with that intolerant and domineering attitude than his kind did down here.

And if anything makes humans special as a whole - it is that spirit.

Mike,

We met twice in 2003, just before the release of Rubicon and the most important take-away from those live talks was the message:

"Evolve or die."

and I do not believe that humanity itself will elect to evolve past its current state of complacency to challenge the widespread and systemic causes of the current economic crisis.

This is the end of the great American Empire. There is no evidence to convince me otherwise.

Take the fact that 2,000 years ago only one in ten lepers thanked their doctor (Joshua, Joseph's son), and many more have thanked you for FTW.

C'mon, if you give us one more shot, promise we wont stuff it up. It shouldn't have to end this way.

Whats that? You've heard it all before?

Come on, dont give us that "its not you, its me" line. You know if you're willing to put in the effort you can turn this around.

Whats that? Its up to us? Us? You're expecting us to raise our collective consciousness and create the world that we deserve and most of us crave?

Bugger. We're screwed. Pass the home brew.

In the face of horrible conditions such as war and disease, humans manage to love each other. When I was in college in the early 80's when the cold war was still playing out, I met a Russian student. I drank beer and he drank vodka and we decided that people are people everywhere and just want to exist and love their families and friends. I think it was H. Goering that said something like "normal people in Germany and France don't want war. You just have to convince them that they are being attacked and they'll follow along." If we're going to survive we have to spiritually mature and evolve. We should be saved from the brink because of all the people who stand up and say no to a global economy based on perpetual war. Unfortunately, some profit from war and many suffer. If we stand up to this, we should be saved.

martypantsROK said...

Personally, I don't think we're on the brink just yet. On the edge of some potentially terrible stuff, no doubt. But the brink, to me, suggests, an end of all things.

I think God won't let us go down the "brink" path. Why? Not because we deserve it, but because we're His and He loves us. I'm not overly religious, and one needn't be to believe this much: what if one of your own children made some pretty stupid mistakes and even some malicious errors in judgement? Would you throw them into the abyss? Probably not. You may not be happy with them, you may not even want to talk to them, but they are still your kids and you'd hope that they get their sh*t figured out soon. So, you'd give them a little more rope, maybe even untangle some a little and see if they can't turn things around. You'd still love your kids. Their behavior, though, not so much.

I think God is the same way with us. He has let us go down this path and get ourselves into this crap, but he's not going to just disown us. We're his kids.

If the worst happens and McCain gets elected, we're certainly in for some crap. But maybe that's because we needed that extra piece of rope to really tie ourselves up before He comes and unties us. Or unties our kids...or grandkids...

Ah this type of topic always reminds me of Ran Prieur and one paragraph in particular:

"Our descendants will need the intellectual artifacts to avoid this -- artifacts we have barely started to develop even as the Great Bad Example begins to fall. In 200 years, when they are brushing seeds into baskets with their fingers, and a stranger appears with a new threshing machine that will do the same thing with less time and effort, they will need to say something smarter than "the Gods forbid it" or "that is not our Way." They will need the knowledge to say something like:

"Your machine requires the seed to be planted alone and not interspersed with perennials that maintain nitrogen and mineral balance in the soil. And from where will the metal come, and how many trees must be cut down and burned to melt and shape it? And since we cannot build the machine, shall we be dependent on the machine-builders, and give them a portion of our food, which we now keep all for ourselves?

Do you not know, clever stranger, that when any biomass is removed from the land, and not recycled back into it, the soil is weakened? And what could we do with our "saved" time, that would be more valuable and pleasurable than gathering the seed by hand, touching and knowing every stalk and every inch of the land that feeds us? Shall we become allies of cold metal that cuts without feeling, turning our hands and eyes to the study of machines and numbers until, severed from the Earth, we nearly destroy it as our ancestors did, making depleted uranium and polychlorinated biphenyls and cadmium batteries that even now make the old cities unfit for living?

Go back to your people, and tell them, if they come to conquer us with their machines, we will fight them in ways the Arawaks and Seminoles and Lakota and Hopi and Nez Perce never imagined, because we understand your world better than you do yourself. Tell your people to come to learn."

How will life have changed 10000 years from now? Will we have learned anything or will these cycles keep repeating themself until we finally manage to blow up the Earth?

Bob Dylan Say it Best:

Only A Pawn In Their Game

A bullet from the back of a bush took Medgar Evers' blood.
A finger fired the trigger to his name.
A handle hid out in the dark
A hand set the spark
Two eyes took the aim
Behind a man's brain
But he can't be blamed
He's only a pawn in their game.

A South politician preaches to the poor white man,
"You got more than the blacks, don't complain.
You're better than them, you been born with white skin," they explain.
And the Negro's name
Is used it is plain
For the politician's gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid,
And the marshals and cops get the same,
But the poor white man's used in the hands of them all like a tool.
He's taught in his school
From the start by the rule
That the laws are with him
To protect his white skin
To keep up his hate
So he never thinks straight
'Bout the shape that he's in
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

From the poverty shacks, he looks from the cracks to the tracks,
And the hoof beats pound in his brain.
And he's taught how to walk in a pack
Shoot in the back
With his fist in a clinch
To hang and to lynch
To hide 'neath the hood
To kill with no pain
Like a dog on a chain
He ain't got no name
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.

Today, Medgar Evers was buried from the bullet he caught.
They lowered him down as a king.
But when the shadowy sun sets on the one
That fired the gun
He'll see by his grave
On the stone that remains
Carved next to his name
His epitaph plain:
Only a pawn in their game.

I responded at approximately 0323 this morning. I do not know whether my comment reached you.

Abraham talked G-d into sparing Sodom and Gomorrah if he could find a minyan of ten righteous people. He only found four. Today we have more, thanks to education and action, small yet growing, over Peak Oil and the nature of money.

Abraham heeded the merciful voice of G-d and spared Isaac; G-d showed mercy and spared Abraham and his descendants, in the midst of Peak Olive Oil at several times in history. The Romans were merciless -- plow salt into Carthage, cut down whole olive groves, and yet the Jews survived.

Here's a piece of wisdom that comes down from Maimonides and reaffirmed over and over -- so long as each of us acts as if the next thing each of us does will tip the cosmic scale toward life and away from destruction, we will live. The key is to find some new good deed to tip the scale, and to recreate the scale to give life always a chance.

Dear Michael, & Jenna, & FTWers-

Oh my, such wonderful times these are! Uh... Really?! Yeah, really. And, while we're at it, let's specify this wonderful work that's going on in today's world.

All the decidedly psychologically unsettling developments that have recently been taking place have always been an integral component of our species' ever-eventuating future. However, finally, right now our future is in the process of beginning to fully consummate itself. (No double entendres intended.)

Those with the good fortune to have already become knowers of what's really going on right now recognize that the practice of intrinsic value being applied to purely non-living physical material items/criteria (i.e., money, oil, gold, i.e., 'Mammon') being formally subordinated to the actuality of intrinsic value existing exclusively in the Source of life, itself, i.e., "God." Oh sure, there's lots of very nasty very scary very unjust very mean stuff going on right along with all of this, too; but all of that stuff has been inevitable. Those who've given proper attention to the right texts have of course known all along it was going to be a bumpy ride, particularly during the last lap or two. And so it is, here we are, right on schedule.

What's nice about it all is that some folks have had the good fortune to be able to figure this stuff out, pass the word(s) around amongst the sisters & brothers, then watch the inevitable incorrigible dummies going crazy thinking they're doing acceptable things. Indeed, it's good to be humble happy and grateful, and not let the stupids fool us into thinking we need to be doing anything other than what we need to.

All the love that's needed comes right back to us when we send it right back to its Source. That's the only way to keep the books balanced. Humankind's inherently inferior systems invariably terminate in extinction. No exceptions.

Guaranteed.

A little time spent understanding human history helps to put the present in perspective. Times are not good but compared to say, the Black Death, Spring 1861, the Spanish Flu Epidemic or September 1939 to take four short moments out of Time, today doesn't look quite so apocalyptic. Good can come out of hard times; if it can't there is no point in living.

Because we CAN search for the truth, we will, and thank you Mike for showing us the true WAY. Alas your message is pearls before swine, and its like Homer J. Simpson says "facts are meaningless- they can be used to prove anything." The goal of the power elite has been achieved in that the people can no longer tell truth from lie. God loves us, but there are greater forces through time that don't particularly care if we are good or bad, if thinking makes us so. These forces are so powerful that our concept of God doesn't quite do them justice. We hear about the super rich, and the common man, but take a listen to the song "Them Hippies Was Right." I saw a picture of John McCain from 1967 and boy were the 60's lost on him. The age of pisces virgo is ending and the age of aquarius leo is beginning. In ancient Egypt, they knew that 'on Earth as it is in Heaven' referred to the science of precession of the equinoxeS, and the true spirituality on the Earth was symbolized in the stars, hence AMEN the Rams headed god of Thebes a.k.a "the hidden one" was the supreme being in the arian age. Todays christians might argue that the word AMEN means something else, but the truth is the truth. Ancient history has much to teach us. Anyway, just as Jesus and Mary dominated the iconography of western civilization for the last 2000 years, the next 2000 years of cosmic manifest destiny is for psychedelic reggae. Look at the true activists on the frontlines, and listen to the music of the Bob Marley (b.aquarius) and Jerry Garcia (b.leo) crowd, and realize it is the bible of the new age. In ancient times Poseidon/Neptune was known not just as being the god of the oceans, but also he was the god of earthquakes and his m.o. was specifically to periodically walk up onto the land and slam his trident into the ground for the express purpose of destroying cities. Shiva (Hara) in the East also carries the trident, and this commonality descends from the time when the one god needed a three headed penis to mate with the triple goddess under whose governance civilization was begun.

Lots of great comments here.

My opinion is that Humanity is great because it is one vast experiment. I think it can still work out, so its not time to abandon it yet. Perhaps civilized life as we know it is not worth keeping, maybe that needs to be scrapped. But Humanity? Definately still viable. Change change change is the only constant. Humans are masters at creating change.

The truth is an offense, but not a sin. Tis he who laugh last, children, is he who wins...One sheeple must learn, children, to respect the sheperd- from the song Jah Live by Robert Nesta Marley. I believe that Mike's work is special because it represents the most significant truth, which is a very religious concept. And its nice to think that God likes us because because we like the truth. Mikes' work as a sheperd (Rodney Dangerfield?) is like pearls before swine because most Americans today believe Homer J. Simpson when he says "facts are meaningless- they can be used to prove anything." The power elite have accomplished their objective-the people can not see (not see= blindness=Nazi) the truth, even if it is totally obvious. God's greatest anger may be reserved for believing only what we want to believe regardless of the evidence. Personally, I think that the concept of god does not do justice to the reality of the cosmic forces as they have been shown by evidence to manifest on Earth. If you ask christians today why they say AMEN, I doubt they would know that that HE was known as the hidden one, the supreme being of the ancient Egyptian pantheon, a rams headed god derived from a phallic god named Min. He wore a rams head because it was the arian age. This age concept is a scientific fact, based on precession of the equinoxeS. When the great cathedrals of Europe were built in the middle ages, the nave and altar were aligned with the front door so that the equinoctal sunrise would shine in. Why is this important? The words "on Earth as it is in Heaven" are written in hieroglyphics, and they refer to the concept that the spitituality on the Earth is symbolized in the heavens. Certainly a strong case could be argued for the fact that Jesus and Mary have dominated the spiritual iconography of the last 2000 years of western civilization, and lo and behold it was the age of pisces virgo the fish and the virgin. So now they say its the dawning of the age of aquarius. Half the story has never been told and since there are 2 equinoxes per year it is equally the age of leo. Aquarius represents the hippies, leo is the main symbol of the reggae international movement. Bob Marley (b. aquarius) and Jerry Garcia (b. leo) are symbols of the pschedelic reggae culture which loves the truth to the point of being activists. The music is like the bible of the new age. Check out the song "Them Hippies Was Right!" I could go on and on about the extreme relevance of ancient history and metaphysics to todays isuues, but the main point I want to make is that psychedelic reggae culture/values is REAL manifest destiny for the next 2000 years.

A note to those who might have problems with the term "GOD".

Words are nothing more nor less than what they are: words. It's always the responsibility of their users - whether readers, writers, or speakers of them - to determine what they convey within the context of their application. When understood exclusively in this manner words are but the chirpings of flying birds, the scratches of ambulating insects, the passionate scrawls of thought-pouring minds, the silent starlight out of the abyss. When known in such manner, words provoke neither anger nor contention, but perhaps a spark of awareness that, in the end, all is inherently good rather than nothing at all.

I think that we each have a story to live, a life to experience and an inherent need to garner whatever knowledge we can from it. Whatever happens...if it is the end, there will always be another beginning. If it is an end, it doesn't make what we do now insignificant. Live, fight, and love until the last breath. I think some of the most interesting elements of humanity are our ability to learn, adapt and evolve. We have such depths of knowledge to explore and share.
I think- don't look to a God, but look to yourself and each other to save humanity. It's true that we are all somehow the same...different in many wonderful details- but essentially the same at heart, no matter where in this world one comes from.
I write to you from Europe…hoping against hope for the elections tonight.

"Evolve or die."

Personally, I don't think mankind needs to argue its case before Divinity, because Divinity is in all things already, including and especially all of us and the insanities coming down the pike.

Our current path is an evolutionary dead end, a common enough conundrum for any Earth species. Those who choose to cling to it will die, while those who choose to adapt will squeeze through and become the meme-pool for all that comes next. The bottleneck and its causes will become coded into our cultural DNA alongside stories of a great flood and a lost golden age, and we will not forget. This process is the very definition of evolution. it's not the end, it means humankind will rejoin creation -- a new beginning. Divinity isn't judging us, it's bringing us home. The only question is whether we as individuals will choose to evolve or to die.

Natural selection will snuff out the Dick Cheneys of the world without a second glance. Only some of those who've learned to live simply will make it through. The meek will quite literally inherit the Earth. If there is a grand conspiracy, it is between the Divine and creation, and it is on our behalf.

If there's been any theme in religion or history, it is beginnings and endings.
Who are we to expect this to go on forever? When we can no longer fend off the consequences of our illness, the process will begin anew. Perhaps that species will reach a higher mark and make it through.
But when we face that ultimatum of evolve or die, most of us evolve. Until then, we choose not to face it. This is all part of that creeping confrontation.
It's inevitable one way or another.
To be apart of it, is humbling, frightening, and beautiful. God, or nature, or human will, is something that we can't just outthink. We have to evolve so that no power structure or monetary system can corrupt us. When things eventually hit that fever pitch, will a nation that has been shown to be simultaneously strongest and weakest in times of crisis, step up or step down?
I can only say that knowing the truth is the greatest weapon and I thank you for that, Mike.
I'm also deeply impressed by the other comments here.
That has honestly restored a good chunk of my faith in humanity. Maybe I should recalculate my outlook on humanity, considering the negative aspects seem to stick out most.
Thanks to all of you.

If we continue to live like human animals, we will die. If we evolve and become spiritually mature Human Beings, we will save ourselves.

Life is not fair,
yet we can attempt to be fair.

The laws and theories of science are hard and practical, they govern more than we might imagine;
yet people will die for a noble idea, a true love, and an honest hope.

Nature is without right and wrong;
and yet ethics give humans the opportunities for honor, trust, and mutual respect.

These human things, are not above nature, but are somehow distinct from a cold uncaring reality of fight and flight in the face of fear and access to resources.

The will to live might be one of the most crucial components in the human animal, but it is clear that many of us are evolving with that force. The will to live still exists and exerts sway, but the beauty, love, and creation that tags along for the ride is valuable, if perhaps not lasting.

Here and now, change is. While there is no escape there is the potential to continue to evolve our understanding.

Thanks Mike and Jenna and the whole "Post-Peak Baseball Team".

When I get disgusted with stupidity, I calm myself down with thoughts of the end of the era of human beings. Let the whales, the bonobos and the orangatans have their chance with the earth.

What do you think of Webster Tarpley's book , Barack H Obama - The unauthorized biography'? He has been on radio shows saying Obama is an illegal Alien, and the next few years is going to be worse than Bush/cheney.
